DAY 1: sailors and seamen

Thursday, September 19th
Today was the first rehearsal for Peter and the Starcatcher. This is always an exciting day! This is where the journey begins, the ship has sailed! The cast was able to sit together and do a first read through of the script, this is called a table read. It is the first time they all hear the story all together. Get ready for this amazing show because even on day one, everyone was laughing and excited to perform.

DAy 2: Aster Led Off

Monday, September 23rd
On our second day of voyage the ship came across a location they’ll know as home soon enough, our stage. Today the cast stumbled through the start of the show. Our principle characters, also known as lead or main characters, learned more about their characters and began to develop their theatrical auras. In just two days, our cast has learned how to accept performance corrections, be efficient, and work as not just a cast but a family.

DAy 4: Molly Descends
Thursday, September 26th
On our fourth day of voyage we did some heavy lifting upon the ship, quite literally. Today the ship’s director, Miss Rachel, attempted a stunt like no other. She attempted to hoist Boy upward and failed quite miserably. Seems Miss Rachel may have overestimated the difficulty level of her stunt. We had fun and became a bit loony but we’re making progress!

Day 5: Grempkin Flashback

Monday, September 30th
The ship took a tad of a detour on our voyage to a new landing place, Mr Stewart’s Vocal Classroom. In just one vocal rehearsal our cast has worked as a collective to not sound so much like slummin’ it sailors and more like magnificent mermaids. The fun has traveled with us that's for sure. Mr Stewart has come aboard a goofy group. Miss Rachel may or may not have let the pirate out of her and captured a shoe from Stache and began a search for some absurd treasure.

Day 6: The Wasp
Tuesday, octber 1st
The ship has returned to its home base, our auditorium. Rehearsal started off a bit blimey to say the least but throughout rehearsal we worked through them and came up with solutions. We started off today’s rehearsal with some goofy, light hearted interaction between ship mates and a pirate parent passing by the ship. Overall, the day was productive and beneficial!

Day 7: enter stache

Wednesday, October 2nd
Today was filled with chaos and mayhem. For today’s venture at sea, we were down a ship director (aka Miss Rachel) as she was stirring up something for our future quests. We made yet another detour to her headquarters, Little Theatre/Miss Rachel’s Classroom. Rehearsal was taken over by an alternative ship director for the day who was Evelyn Shaw, our production journalist and assistant director (aka the person writing this). For the evening we stumbled through sequences, worked on memorization, and touched on a few notes to better our performance.

Day 8: Amulets and cat

Monday, October 7th
On this lovely (I’m not so sure about that) Monday afternoon, we went yet another day without our ship director (aka Miss Rachel) and we’re working very hard just for her! We worked wonders on our vocals today. The cast learned the importance of timing from Mr Stewart. Our main focus for today’s rehearsal was establishing timing and ownership of each line in the songs.

Day 9: Perpend
Tuesday, October 8th
A number of our principal actors were called to the docks today. We made headway on our blocking aboard the Neverland as we worked with Black Stache and our useless orphans. It’s an exuberating experience to see the cast’s character development from a directing point of view. Seeing the progress shows their devotion, dedication, and love for their craft. We can already tell it’s going to be an amazing show!

Day 10: Pay peanuts, get monkeys

Wednesday, October 9th
Today marks ten days into our rehearsals and we’ve officially gone through the entirety of act 1! Our cast is working at rapid speeds with physical force. We maneuvered through our more tangible scenes and used hands-on actions in the process of developing a sense of physical ability. Teamwork played an important role in today’s rehearsal. We discussed the importance of stunt safety and trusting each other with strength and ability as individuals. The cast grew even closer for the sake of theatrical stunt protection. Take a look at the attachments below to get an extra sneaky peek for a better understanding!

Day 11: Dodo in distress
Thursday, October 10th
On today’s unconventional episode of Peter’s Production, we created a deplorable plunger fight and a boxing match brawl. It was truly the kookiest of kickoffs in a long line of theatrical craziness. Stage combat is a great skill for performers to possess. Our production uses many forms of stage combat with performance dueling including. The cast is beginning to see the technical aspects of our show come into full effect and can’t wait to see how it progresses in the meantime.

Day 12: Starstuff
Tuesday, October 15th
Tides, winds, and emotions ran up to an all time high in today’s voyage out to sea. Sometimes the journey won’t go as smooth sailing as we’d like but it’s all part of the adventure. The cast has begun to personally reflect on themselves and noticed self- improvement throughout the span of our show. It’s amazing to see how the initial outline as well as ideas for our show have grown into reality. It’s truly an unreal experience.

Day 13: Peter Overboard
Wednesday, October 16th
Today’s rehearsal certainly lived up to its title. We worked through yet another stunt-heavy scene. The cast is growing performance eager like never before. Our veteran performers are having a ball teaching the littles of the cast what it will be like as we approach the show. Being in a Miller South Theatre Department production means working hard and rapidly. Our not- so- seasoned performers are adapting to expectations fast. From the production team’s perspective, we’re ready for the roller coaster ride that will be Peter and the Starcatcher.

Day 14: Hurricano- Part i
Thursday, October 17th
The cast is no longer a cast or schoolmates- they’re an inseparable group that began to gel together in little to no time. They share such an exhilarating, unmatched experience to be in their position. Quite frankly, their chemistry is palpable. We worked on some more challenging scenes today, focusing on time and delivery. It’s fascinating to witness actors bring their characters to life, each adding their own unique flair to the roles.

Day 15: Hurricano- Part II
Monday, October 21st
Every now and then, rehearsals might have a low where the energy dips even throughout a smooth journey. Sometimes particular scenes just don’t click like usual. There may be occasional moments when timing is off or lines get unintentionally skipped over. Even so, glimpses of brilliance and potential in those rough patches can be depicted. We’re thankful like no other to be able to work with such an incredibly talented group of actors. With more rehearsals and progress, we can smooth out all the imperfections and kinks. It’s a reminder the path to a great performance is rarely smooth, but the effort and dedication we put in now will make the final product all the more rewarding.

Day 16: Hurricano- Part III
Tuesday, October 22nd
Rehearsal today went absolutely swimmingly! Sure, we partook in our usual criminal activities such as: bribery, assault, and ransom. JUST KIDDING!!! We’re not all that serious about partaking in any criminal activity, maybe just a little. This show is a whirlwind of chaos and craziness and that’s a guarantee.

Day 17: Swim On
Wednesday, October 23rd
We had a very productive rehearsal as of today. Let’s walk through all that was covered! Rehearsal kicked off with refreshing the performers on their blocking and then adjusting little entanglements. Then, we focused on key scenes, with friendly feedback enhancing emotional performances. Next, everyone worked together to improve their timing. Small group discussions allowed actors to explore character relationships more personally. Finally, rehearsal concluded after feedback

Day 18: Mermaid Outta Me
Thursday, October 24th
Today’s rehearsal was awesome! We kicked things off with a fun warm-up that set a great mood. The director’s feedback during the read-through really helped clarify my character’s motives. We tackled some tricky scenes, and it was great to see everyone so eager to improve. The new choreography added a lot of energy, and even with a few mistakes, we’re starting to sync up better. Those small group chats helped us connect with our characters more, which made the run-through even better. I’m really excited for the next rehearsal and can’t wait for opening night!
